Best Custom Home Builders in Illinois

18 Min Read

Some of the wealthiest suburbs in the nation are in Chicago’s exclusive North Shore communities. There are five cities in the Prairie State that are in the top 5 percent of the average US household income. With so much wealth, the exclusive neighborhoods and communities along Lake Michigan and throughout Chicagoland feature some truly amazing homes. Places such as Lake Forest, Glencoe, Winnetka, and Highland Park are known for their gorgeous mansions and estates. And the posh urban neighborhoods in Chicago — celebrated addresses such as Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast — also feature multimillion-dollar, architecturally distinct residences.

This is a list of the custom home builders in Illinois with the elite skills and vast experience to build such world-class homes. These 15 firms all specialize in high-end, upscale, complex, and expensive new homes and remodeling projects. These are the contractors who win awards for their work, who have earned superior academic credentials, and who have built the best custom residences in the state.

If you are thinking about building a custom home, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.
