The project above was completed in 2017. It spans over 18,000 square feet and included a feasibility study, structural engineering, and the overall design. The home primarily features a timeless Spanish Colonial theme, along with several arches that connect several of its spaces.

The project above is an excellent embodiment of the company’s expertise. It is a two-story addition attached to an existing two-story structure that was first built in 1949. The ground floor houses a laundry room and crawlspace. Its second story, on the other hand, contains the stellar master suite and bathroom. 


J Lou Architects

J Lou Architects operates out of its office in Pasadena and takes great pride in the multitude of awards it has won over the years. The firm provides a great range of architecture, construction management, and development services. It is composed of a talented staff of professionals who each brings years of experience to the firm’s projects. Together, they have worked on a long list of project types, regardless of size or scale. Aside from its single-family homes, some of its noteworthy projects include community buildings, historic preservation and restoration, multi-family residential architecture, mixed-use commercial development, and affordable housing work. It has been in service in 2005 and has also had its work featured in a multitude of publications. These include The Los Angeles Times and the Pasadena Star News. The firm’s accolades include several Gold Nugget distinctions. 

The project showcased above was completed in Hollywood. It is a single-family residence that sits on a steep slope. It provides its owners with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Its most notable features are the private exterior courts.


Jim Fenske Architecture

Jim Fenske Architecture is headquartered in South Pasadena and provides its clients with a great range of services. It is led by its founder and namesake Jim Fenske, an architect and contractor. The project above is framed by a craftsman theme. It features a nondescript wooden front porch, wood-paneled exteriors, and various custom finishes. The firm also infused various green methods when working on this particular project. 


Space Light Structure Design (SLSD)

Founded in 1994, Space Light Structure Design extends its services throughout Southern California. It specializes in residential, commercial, high density housing and mixed use projects. The firm is particularly well-known for its outstanding architecture, extensive planning, and stunning interiors. The company first started out as a small firm with only two people and has now grown to a staff of 15 people. The firm’s team works closely with clients throughout the entire process and have secured solid relationships with some of the area’s best subcontractors and professionals. The firm also works on predesign, space planning, schematic design, and construction documentation. 

Spanning over 3,000 square feet, the project above was completed in Monterey Park. It features flat angular roofs and a recurring theme of straight lines. Its team also used a clean palette and various minimalist finishes. 


TAMstudio Architects

TAMstudio Architects is best known for its talent for modern and contemporary architecture. It often incorporates straight lines and minimalist touches into its projects and has also been recognized for its use of great materials. At its helm are its principals Anthony Tam and Chung Chan. Tam holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley and draws inspiration from nearly three decades of experience in the industry. He has worked on not only residential projects but also numerous civic, commercial, institutional, hospitality, and entertainment spaces. In addition to this, it has taken on projects outside of the US in countries like Germany, Australia, Chile, Kuwait and Japan. Chan, on the other hand, was awarded his Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver. He has taken on projects across the US  and Asia and showcases talent and expertise for a large body of architectural vernaculars.

The company’s talent is best showcased in the photo above. The firm opted for a box-like theme and large glass windows to bring in a rich amount of ambient light. It also worked on stucco finishes, its own pool, and custom finishes. 


George Architecture

Established in 2004, George Architecture offers a full range of design services for a variety of markets. It specializes in historic preservations, and its  traditional architecture and design expertise is widely respected. The firm uses stylistic problem-solving tenets and bases its processes on the AIA’s standard contracts and contract deliverables that involve schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation, and construction administration. The firm draws inspiration from the work and craft of notable figures such as Wallace Neff, Myron Hunt, and Charles and Henry Greene. The firm is familiar with numerous architectural themes, everything from craftsman to Mediterranean-style homes. But perhaps George Architecture is best known for its contemporary designs with Japanese modernist principles.

Showcased above is the company’s Younghouse project, an extensive remodel and addition. The firm updated its former ranch style into this entirely new space reminiscent of Swiss chalets. The company’s team worked on excellent indoor-outdoor areas, two guest bedrooms and a shared bath, and great outdoor spaces.
