The Best Residential Historical Restoration Contractors in the United States

38 Min Read

The United States has a rich history and heritage reflected in the number of historic homes across the country. Home styles from the Colonial period to more recent eras require strong skills and thorough knowledge of historical architecture for restoration.

In restoring historic homes, contractors are dutifully assigned with a task to maintain the integrity of the homes while updating features for contemporary living standards. Contractors that are experienced in this field are supervised by well-entrenched historical residential organizations. A number of these firms are also recognized with historical restoration awards and subsequent design awards.

This list features 50 of the country’s best historical restoration contractors. To come up with this list, our editorial team gathered a list of contractors. We assessed each firm using a set of criteria that measures work history, capacity, and overall quality of work.

If you are thinking about doing a historical restoration, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.
