18 Min Read

Manhattan Beach is an idyllic coastal city with homes for every lifestyle. Whether you prefer a quiet family home in East Manhattan Beach, a luxury estate in the Hill Section, or a vacation beach house in The Strand, the city has it all. With an award-winning school system and growing commercial scene, it’s no wonder that celebrities, athletes, and families have come to the area to settle down. This increased interest in building in Manhattan Beach has put local contractors at the forefront.

This list provides the city’s top residential contractors, who focus on new construction and custom homes. Design-build firms, general contractors, and even developers are featured on this list. They were selected and ranked based on the diversity of their portfolios, principals’ backgrounds, glowing reviews, accreditations,  and awards and press recognition.

If you are thinking about building a custom home, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.

The firm’s high-end custom homes range from $4 million to $10 million, are often contemporary and modern in design, and feature the latest technologies. The company’s main philosophy is “Thoughtful Design,” which means all building processes should mutually inform and inspire one another. From the spatial layout and engineering to the tiny details that enhance the living experience, all aspects of the building process are guided by the builder’s insight and the owner’s purpose. Combining this philosophy with efficient practices, the firm is able to provide a stress-free and enjoyable building process.

This contemporary 35th Street home was initially designed and built by Lazar for his family. In 2014, NHL All-Star Player Marion Gaborik bought the home for $5.55 million. This three-story contemporary home is clad in Mangaris wood and welcomes visitors with a river of water flowing over riverbed stones at the entrance. A mix of dark woods and bright teals and blues give the interior a unique appeal.

Witteman started out as a carpenter and then served as a superintendent until he became co-owner of the firm in 2006. Together, the duo has steered the company to become one of the most resilient and successful companies in the South Bay area.

The firm custom built this picture-perfect home in Hermosa Beach for a couple who wanted a Mediterranean-inspired home. The firm managed to create architect David Watson’s intricate architectural dream of having a curved staircase float up through all four floors. The craftsmanship of the exterior is also notable in the stone passageways, massive front doors, and wall sconces. Hollingsworth and Witteman’s attention to detail and smooth, error-free process were lauded by the homeowners.
